Windows 10 and pin

Recently I bought new PC and one of the last steps of installation latest version of Windows 10 it asked me to create PIN . I don't want to create PIN and I prefer to use my Microsoft account and password but looks like there were no way not to do it. I personally think this is not acceptable. I should login any way I like. If Microsoft would like me to use PIN because it is more secure or faster they have to explain it there and let me to decide. Anway I created pin and after I logged in into Windows I deleted it. Great. Then after next restart I was prompted to create PIN again. WTF? But there we option to do it later. Ok then, so I just clicked "Setup later" and I thought I'm done with it.

On next restart I was prompted to create PIN again. And that became annoying. I did skip it and restarted again just to make sure. And I was prompted to create PIN again.

So I did google for it and I found this:

  • Cancel the PIN prompt and login to your PC
  • Go to Windows Defender Security Center icon on the tray.
  • Under 'Account Protection' go to 'Set up Windows Hello for faster, more secure sign-in'
  • Click 'Set-up', it will prompt you to set up a pin - don't.
  • Click "Dismiss"

Key here is to press Dismiss button. But by some reason it didn't help me first time so I have to add and remove pin to make it work.

I totally don't understand why Microsoft insist that I create PIN. It is less secure because it contains less information. It is not huge time saving. It is really strange decision by Microsoft. Anyway I hope it helps someone.
