Why I do not like Google Chrome

I personally don’t like Google Chrome browser and I don’t use it at all. And here is list of reasons why I do not like it.

First and most important reason, that it was created by evil (at my option) company. Google for so long time blamed other software companies for many different sins and now they are repeating exactly the same things. For example: Google fined a record $5 billion by the EU

You can find their comments when Microsoft was fined with about 10 times less fine. There were talking about fairness, good business practices and in general put themselves as “good corporation” and put Microsoft as “evil corporation”. And now they are about 10 times worse than Microsoft (in terms of fine). If Google didn’t say anything it would be ok. But after they said that and position themselves as good it looked very bad.

They aggressively push Google Chrome. On every Google controlled page, they put info about Google Chrome. They were so desperate that even been agreed to be crapware. You installed some freeware and it will silently install Google Chrome. I personally saw at least 4 different applications installing Google Chrome. I don’t mind when someone trying to advertise their product but it was way too much.

I cannot prove it, but I had it by myself and about 10 different people told me that Google Mail became quite slow on other browsers. And in Google Chrome it works fine. I know at least 5 people who actually moved to Google Chrome because this issue. And I absolutely sure that Google could fix it, but they didn’t want to. But if someone asks them, they will have long speech about equality, fairness, neutrality and other stuff. But I judge them by their action and by not their speeches.

I really hate how Chrome renders text. I cannot read text on many websites and have to start another browser just to continue read because my eyes cannot focus on text anymore. You can look by yourself:

Top is Chrome and bottom is Firefox. Perhaps it could be matter of personal preference but I cannot read Reddit from Chrome. Text is too blurry and gray instead of black. Somebody can ask my do I use Chrome to read. Well I don’t. I use Opera that based on the same engine because it has some unique capabilities that every other browser doesn’t have. And sometimes I forgot what browser I use. But be sure it didn’t take long to realize and switch to Firefox.

I really hate long list of chrome.exe in Task Manager. Here is example. I have opened 59 tabs in Firefox and I have 7 Firefox.exe in Task manager. And here are 26 tabs in new Opera that based on same engine as Google Chrome, so Chrome will have exactly the same number of processes. In Opera I have 32 processes in Task Manager. And Firefox uses just little bit more memory than Opera serving 33 more open tabs. When I see some many processes, I see developer laziness. Really simple: new tab - new process. Moreover, Firefox uses 338 threads while Chrome uses 575 threads. So clearly Chrome is quite ineffective in usage of computer resources. My colleagues that open even more tabs than I do, constantly complaining that Chrome uses all resources.

Honestly, I totally don’t understand that hype about Chrome. I use web browser a lot and Firefox rock solid and works perfectly. Yes, if you compare say IE and Chrome, then Chrome looks good. But I personally don’t see single reason why I should ever should use Chrome.
